Peptide therapy utilizes natural, effective, and non-invasive supplements to decrease inflammation, help with healing, promote weight loss, hair growth, and healing, and assist in anti-aging.
Peptides are small pieces of protein that do cell signaling in the body. Insulin was the first peptide isolated and used in medicine in the 1920’s. Since then but especially after 1950 peptide therapy has taken off. There are hundreds of designer peptides that can speed soft tissue healing, increase growth hormone, improve brain function, and increase sexual performance just to name a few.
Below is a brief summary of some of the more popular peptides. They are available as an injection and now some are available as a sublingual tablet or liquid. Prices vary depending on pharmacy, peptide, and route of administration.
What are Peptides?
Peptides are short-chain amino acids found naturally in the body. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and these particular amino acids are designed to augment specific functions within the human body. Therapy with peptides uses those sequences already present to regulate and rejuvenate functions. Basically, they bind to and tell other cells what to do, replacing or mimicking the functions of naturally occurring peptides. Peptides have the capability to rewrite body chemistry relationships to promote restoration, anabolism, and homeostasis.
What is CJC-1295/Ipamorelin?
CJC-1295 is a growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) analog. It increases growth hormone without increasing prolactin. This leads to more muscle formation and more fat loss. Ipamorelin is another GHRH which stimulates the body to produce more growth hormone. It also increases muscle mass, decreases fat, and can help regulate blood pressure, increase testosterone production, improves skin, increases bone strength and improves quality of sleep.
This peptide is typically taken right before bed on an empty stomach. This way it mimics the body’s natural spike in growth hormone at night.
Does CJC-1295/Ipamorelin really work?
CJC-1295 is an incredibly effective peptide which works by stimulating the release of your own body’s growth hormones (which drop quickly after the age of 30). Research has shown that CJC-1295 can increase growth hormone levels by 200-1000% and the elevated growth hormone production continued for up to 6 days.
Semaglutide (Ozempic) Injection
This is the weight loss peptide that is very popular right now. It acts to slow down the digestive tract so that food sticks around longer and thus your appetite goes away. This is a once per week injection. The most common side effect is nausea. We like to start with a very small amount and build up. Over time the body gets used to this and the side effects of nausea, reflux or constipation will go away. Some people never get these side effects – others just get nausea for a while.
This peptide has been a game changer for those trying to loose weight. Typically people will loose 10% of their body weight. We recommend that one try it for at least 3 months. Over this time you retrain yourself to eat smaller portions and avoid sugar. Eating sugar can increase the nausea symptoms so it helps to decrease cravings.
BPC-157
This is also known as the “wolverine peptide” as it can speed up soft tissue healing. This peptide is naturally made in the stomach (in small amounts) where it acts to protect and heal the GI tract. Thus it can be very useful for the treatment of ulcers and esophageal irritation (say from reflux). It also speeds up the repair of torn muscles, detached tendons, and damaged ligaments. This one can be dosed multiple times during the day. For stomach ulcerations or other GI issues both the sublingual tablet and a capsule are recommended. For muscle/tendon/ligament injuries it maybe better to inject this around the site of injury.
Semax
This one improves brain function by activating centers in the brain which increase something called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF supports the survival of existing brain cells as well as the growth of new ones.
Here are a few of it’s benefits:
- anti-depressant and anti-anxiety like properties
- improves sleep patterns by calming “racing thoughts”
- improves both short term and long term memory
- improves circulation
- may help relieve chronic pain
- improves depression and ADHD symptoms
Melanotan II
This peptide is for getting a great tan without a lot of work. It will tan even those who typically do not tan – someone like my brother who growing up was either white or red. It is a tiny piece of the human growth hormone which acts to bring your melanocytes (things in your skin that hold pigment) to the surface. This one is only available in injectable form. Typically one would start by injecting 0.05cc once daily x 2 weeks and then only once per week after that. One still needs to go into the sun to activate it but you will become darker faster and the tan will stay much longer than normal. Side effects can include nausea and/or flushing. These usually only last a few minutes. Other side effects can be a darkening of moles and freckles on skin. Body builders have been using this one for the past 20+ years. It can also help with sexual function.
PT-141
This is very similar to Melanotan II but without the tan. It works on the nervous system rather than the vascular system (as does Viagra & Cialis).
This is available as an injectable or sublingual tablet. Side effects can include headache, nausea, and flushing.
